Laser welding machine is pretty common in material processing. The major working principle of laser welding machine is to use high energy laser pulse to perform local heating in the tiny area of the materials and then the laser energy will proliferate inside the material by heat transfer and then the material will melt and become certain molten pool.

Laser welding is a novel welding method and is widely used to weld thin-walled materials and high precision parts. It can realize spot welding, jam welding, stitch welding and seal welding. It features heat affecting zone, little deformation, high welding speed, neat weld line and no post-processing required. What’s more, it is quite easy to be integrated into automation line. 

Laser welding machines are having wider and wider applications and gradually appear in various industries. At the same time, with the market demand changes, laser welding machine seems to gradually replace plasma welding machine. So, what is the difference between laser welding machine and plasma welding machine? 

But first, let’s take a look at their similarity. Laser welding machine and plasma welding are both beam arc welding. They have high heating temperature and are able to weld materials with high melting point.

However, they are also different in many ways. For plasma welding machine, the low temperature plasma arc belongs to shrunk arc and its highest power is about 106w/cm2. As for laser welding machine, the laser belongs to photon stream with good monochromaticity and coherency and its high power is about 106-129w/cm2. The highest heating temperature of laser welding machine is far bigger than that of plasma welding machine. Laser welding machine is complicated in structure and is costly while plasma welding machine has simple structure and low cost, but laser welding machine can be more easily integrated into CNC machinery or robot system.
